Film Hub Wales

Film Hub Wales’s region covers the entirety of Wales. The Film Hub Lead Organisation (FHLO) for Wales is  Chapter.

Film Hub Wales (FHW) celebrates cinema. It funds, trains and advises organisations that screen film, from film festivals to societies and mixed arts centres. Working with around 300 Welsh exhibitors, it aims to bring the best UK and international film to all audiences across Wales and the UK. FHW runs Made in Wales, a distinct project that celebrates films with Welsh connections as well as a new three-year project in partnership with TAPE Community Music and Film across rural Conwy and Anglesey.

Support

The Film Exhibition Fund offers support for FHW Members to screen UK independent and international film and the moving image to audiences across Wales. There are two main rounds annually, offering up to £10,000 per project. The average grant is circa £5000. There are also rolling pitch pots of up to £1000 for shorter seasons or one-off events. Members should read the guidelines before making an application. Early submission is recommended as funds are limited.

Members can also apply year-round for training bursaries of up to £500 to support skills development, networking and consultancy.

FHW also promotes a number of distinct seasons and project opportunities alongside such Welsh film seasons and ‘major programmes’ – a themed fund which is open once annually for seasonal project screenings up to £15,000 or £125 per film from a menu of titles.

Training and Events

FHW offers a number of different training sessions and resources annually, both in person and online, including:
  • Film Forum: A quarterly online programming session where curator Rachel Pronger shares the best upcoming UK independent and international film releases.
  • Hub Helo: An annual get-together in spring where members can take time to reflect, catch up with Welsh exhibition colleagues and find inspiration in one another’s projects through bite-size interactive sessions,
  • Welsh Film Preview Days: exclusive screenings of upcoming Welsh-made, Welsh-language and Welsh archive film releases.
  • Preview Room: BFI Fan members UK-wide can access the latest online screeners of UK independent and international film.
  • Online resources: FHW develop a host of training and programming resources from theirbiodiverse big screen pack to Inclusive Cinema.
  • One-to-one – The FHW team are on hand to support exhibitors with day-to-day advice and support.
  • Advocacy – FHW also lobby on behalf of the Welsh exhibitor sector to ensure that needs are represented at a Wales and UK level.

Made in Wales (MIW)

MIW celebrates films with Welsh connections, aiming to connect audiences to Welsh stories on screen, raising awareness of Wales by prioritising fresh narratives and inspiring talent. Exhibitors from across the UK can access assets such as podcasts, video interviews and themed editorial to market screenings of key titles each year, highlighting lesser-known links to Wales. FHW also operate an online catalogue of over 1000 films to help exhibitors to find films.
